NMSU engineering students give new life to campus community garden
Seidel Engineering Leadership Institute students set out to move 12-cubic yards of garden soil to revitalize the NMSU Community Garden.

LAS CRUCES – “For engineers, the only distinction between a task and community service is … not having paid out for it,” explained Emeritus Engineering Professor Kenny Stevens. “It’s variety of cool,” he additional.

Stevens was addressing a group of pupils participating in the Seidel Engineering Management Institute who have been about to embark on their have local community provider undertaking: supporting to revitalize the NMSU Community Backyard garden. The backyard was formally set up as a chartered Involved Pupils of NMSU business in 2017. The group mounted 15 elevated backyard beds with drip irrigation. Regrettably, the garden languished for the duration of the time campus was closed because of to the Covid epidemic.

The Seidel Engineering Management Institute commenced in 2019 with a donation from engineering alum Ron Seidel and his spouse Janice, to supply pupils with the interpersonal and intrapersonal abilities needed to turn into thriving leaders in engineering professions.
