Guidoboni named dean of the UMaine College of Engineering – UMaine News
Giovanna Guidoboni, affiliate dean for analysis and professor in the School of Engineering at the College of Missouri, has been named dean of the College or university of Engineering at the University of Maine, effective Jan. 16, 2023.
She will fill the dean placement left by Dana Humphrey, who is retiring Aug. 31 after a 36-calendar year job at UMaine. Mohamad Musavi, UMaine Higher education of Engineering associate dean and professor, will serve as interim dean, successful Sept. 1.
“We search ahead to welcoming Dr. Guidoboni to the College of Maine neighborhood in the new year,” states John Volin, UMaine govt vice president for academic affairs and provost. “Her depth of encounter includes internationally regarded investigation and innovation, undergraduate and graduate teaching and study, and stakeholder collaborations. With her leadership and eyesight, she will make critical contributions that will enable advance UMaine’s mission to advantage Maine and outside of.
“I also lengthen my deepest appreciation to Dr. Dana Humphrey for his tireless endeavours that have set UMaine engineering on the map,” Volin claims. “He has left a legacy in the school targeted on scholar-centered, experiential learning, and nationally and internationally acknowledged investigate and outreach to industry leaders, numerous of whom are alumni.”
Guidoboni is a professor with joint appointments in electrical engineering and laptop science, and arithmetic. Her investigation focuses on mathematical modeling and data science utilized to engineering and daily life sciences. She collaborates nationally and internationally in areas these types of as ocular blood circulation and danger components involved with ocular disorders cardiovascular perform and noninvasive well being monitoring and physiology of the decrease urinary tract.
Her investigate has been funded by the Countrywide Science Basis, the National Institutes of Wellness, and the European Commission.
Before signing up for the College of Missouri in 2017, Guidoboni served on the college of the University of Houston, Indiana College Purdue University Indianapolis, and the Université de Strasbourg. Since January 2021, she has served as affiliate dean for study in the University of Missouri Higher education of Engineering.
Guidoboni is the founder and manager of the consulting organization Gspace LLC, which offers modeling and computational methods for intricate complications in engineering and lifetime sciences. She also is co-founder and co-editor-in-main of the journal Modeling and Artificial Intelligence in Ophthalmology.
Her worldwide awards involve a Fulbright Scholarship and a Chair Gutenberg. Guidoboni serves on the editorial boards of Scientific Stories (Character), Frontiers in Neuroscience (Frontiers), and Mathematical Biosciences and Engineering (AIMS Push). In 2022, she was elected a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts.
Guidoboni has a Ph.D. in mathematics, and master’s and bachelor’s levels in products engineering from the University of Ferrara.
