For National Engineers Week 2023, the topic is “Creating the Potential,” and Dunahee encapsulates this topic by aspiring to generate a better long term for these in require.

Even though Dunahee only begun her civil engineering experiments at S&T in August 2022, she already has some ideas about how she may possibly attain just that.

“I am hopeful that my civil engineering diploma and history will allow for me to fund tasks or be the boots on the ground myself to enable others in impoverished parts,” she states. “This may possibly involve developing drinking water remedy vegetation or ingesting h2o purification systems for communities in other international locations that really don’t have access to thoroughly clean drinking h2o.”

One particular region Dunahee is now fascinated in investigating as an engineer is drinking water-born pathogens, as this investigate could most likely gain the men and women she hopes to serve in impoverished regions. This is similar to the water high quality operate her father is presently performing as an environmental engineer for Burns & McDonnell.

Dunahee suggests her mothers and fathers inspire her. She looks up to her father’s engineering track record, and she has witnessed the two of her moms and dads contributing to  Agape Pamoja, a non-gain corporation that primarily serves African refugees residing in Kansas Town, Missouri. Agape Pamoja signifies “love and neighborhood.”

This led to Dunahee acquiring involved in the group and trying to find to discover approaches to help some others, which she finds gratifying.

“We have finished a lot together including residence renovations, food stuff distribution, schooling and everyday living skills. They have taught me to be inclusive and appreciative of other cultures, which has led me to find out and take pleasure in the numerous cultures right here at S&T.”

Even although Dunahee’s journey as an engineer is just beginning, she suggests she is enthusiastic for the upcoming, and she appreciates Missouri S&T will prepare her for whichever will come up coming.

“Missouri S&T will help me produce the trouble-fixing abilities and know-how required to be profitable,” she claims. “I just cannot hold out to use this training to assistance make a variance in the earth.”
